about this recipe

If you’ve never tried hummus dressing before, add this to your must-make list!

Since we’re using premade hummus, this healthy dressing comes together super quickly.

This creamy dairy-free dressing goes great with a fresh salad, Buddha bowl, pasta salad or even drizzled over chicken & roasted veggies.

It’s worth making your own salad dressings at home because you can adjust the flavors to your own taste.

I also love that you can control the quality of ingredients – including the oil, and amount & type of added sugar!

process & tips

The beauty of this vegan hummus dressing is that it comes together easily in a mason jar.

Shaking the ingredients together in a jar helps bring the dressing together, and cuts down on clean up, plus it can be stored in the same jar reducing dishes even further.

Skipping the need for a blender or food processor makes this recipe easier, faster, and involves much less clean up then many other dressing recipes out there.

Once you’ve added all your ingredients to the jar, just shake everything up and you’ll be good to go!

ingredients & modifications

Prepared hummus: Use homemade hummus for an even more flavorful dressing.

Extra virgin olive oil: Use a good quality olive oil for the best flavor, but any neutral oil will work in this recipe, such as avocado oil, vegetable oil or canola.

Honey or maple syrup: The optional honey or maple syrup adds a little sweetness that helps balance out the flavor of the other ingredients. Use maple syrup if you’d like to make a vegan version.

Lemon Juice: The lemon juice pairs well with the Mediterranean inspired flavors in this recipe but you can also use apple cider vinegar in it’s place if you’re looking for a hummus dressing with no lemon.

Kosher salt: look for kosher salt with the regular iodized salt at the grocery store. It has a subtler flavor. Use less iodized salt if that’s what you have on hand.

how to make red pepper hummus dressing

This dressing recipe is super versatile and can be used as a base for so many tasty variations.

Simply switch up the flavor of the prepared hummus you use from plain to roasted red pepper hummus.

You can get creative and choose any savory variety you like, including roasted garlic, basil pesto, sundried tomato and more!

how to make a spicy hummus dressing

You can easily customize this salad dressing if you want to kick up the spice level.

To make this into a spicy hummus dressing, simply add a pinch of cayenne pepper or mix in 1-2 teaspoons of your favorite hot sauce.

Since it pairs really well with the lemon and honey, I really like sriracha in this recipe.

Drizzle over top chicken or toss with your favorite cooked grain.

This also works great with chicken salads, lettuce wraps or pita / lavash wraps.

Hummus dressing pairs well with any greens but it’s especially good with crisp, crunchy greens like chopped romaine and ingredients like sliced cucumbers, purple cabbage, fresh tomatoes, and olives.

Many of your favorite salad dressings can double as delicious sauces for chicken dishes or pasta. Try this as a hummus sauce for pasta salads to add a refreshing twist!

how to store & freeze leftover dressing

Store covered, tightly sealed and refrigerated for up to 5 days.

The hummus dressing may not be as pourable and the ingredients may separate when refrigerated.

This is because oil can solidify at cooler temperatures.

To use, simply remove from the refrigerator, allow to come to room temperature, and shake well to recombine.
