My Favorite Protein Pineapple Smoothie

Okay, blueberries and pineapple are not the most obvious smoothie pair, but trust me, the combination works beautifully! Pineapple adds tropical sweetness that softens the slight tartness of the blueberries, and Greek yogurt thickens everything into a creamy, milkshake-like moment that holds its own as a breakfast or afternoon snack. For the best texture, I’ve found that frozen fruit straight from the freezer is the way to go, but if you only have fresh on hand, a handful of ice cubes does the trick.

Greek yogurt is my secret to the texture and richness of this smoothie. Whole milk vanilla is my go-to because it’s silky and just sweet enough, but plain unsweetened works if you’d rather control the sweetness yourself. For a dairy-free version, a thick plant-based yogurt does the job, or you can skip the yogurt entirely and blend in a small handful of frozen avocado, which sounds weird but creates that same creamy consistency without changing the flavor.

You’ll notice there’s no banana in this recipe, and that’s intentional! Bananas have a way of dominating a smoothie and burying the other fruits underneath, and I wanted the blueberry and pineapple to actually come through. That said, you can absolutely add a frozen banana if that’s what you love. And for more in this same easy, fruit-forward smoothie category, my mango pineapple smoothie takes the same yogurt-and-frozen-fruit approach with mango, and my berry protein smoothie is the move when you’re looking for something with more berries. Enjoy!
