Ready to transition to a cleaner, safer beauty routine?

Read on for 3 simple steps to start a cleaner routine, without feeling overwhelmed in the process.

Ready to transition to a clean, safer beauty routine?

If so, you’re in the right place.

To simplify the process, I’ve put together an easy, three-step process to help you effortlessly ditch the harmful chemicals and transition to safer beauty without feeling guilty or overwhelmed along the way.

First up, let’s talk about the what, why, and how behind clean, non-toxic beauty products, plus answer some clean beauty frequently asked questions!

When it comes to Beauty, Are Clean and Non-Toxic the Same as Natural?

No. Just because an ingredient is natural does not mean it’s safe, and just because an ingredient is synthetic (man-made) doesn’t mean it’s harmful.

The lack of clarity here can definitely be confusing.

When in doubt, look for products clearly labeled as non-toxic. Better yet, check the ingredient list!

Why Switch to Clean, Safer Beauty Products?

Because the products you put on your body are absorbed through your skin, so, just like you pay attention to the food you eat, paying attention to what you put on your skin matters when it comes to overall health and well-being.

How Can I Tell if a Product Contains Safer Ingredients?

Check the Never List!

Published by Beautycounter, it includes a handy reference of the more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals, including the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union.

How Can I Avoid Overwhelm and Decision Fatigue when Making the Switch to Safer Beauty?

While I love the Never List as a reference, checking every single ingredient on every single product can get pretty overwhelming, pretty quickly.

My best tip when it comes to avoiding decision fatigue when it comes to making the non-toxic switch: pick one company, do your homework on the ingredients they use (and don’t use), and start there.

After doing my homework on companies; from the products they do and don’t use, sourcing practices, packaging decisions, and environmental impact, I decided to transition my beauty routine to use Beautycounter products.

Of course I use other products as well, but picking one company (especially when I was first making the transition to safer beauty) took the overwhelm out of making the switch.

Now, that we have the basics down, let’s talk about the 3 simple tips to transition to cleaner beauty!

3 Simple Tips to Transition to a Clean Beauty Routine

One // Add One

This clean beauty thing does not have to be an all-or-nothing situation.

It doesn’t have to be perfect, and it doesn’t have to happen all at once.

So if you’re ready to get started with non-toxic beauty, but feel daunted by switching everything all at once, don’t switch everything all at once!

Just start by adding one thing at a time.

So before you switch anything, try adding.

Pick one cleaner product and add it to your current routine.

That’s it!

By picking one thing, you’ll get a chance to check out the ingredients on a product, do a little homework on the company you’re buying from, and create some non-toxic momentum in your routine.

Here are my top three suggestions for clean beauty products to add to your current routine.

Overnight Resurfacing Peel

This one’s for you if you’re skeptical that going non-toxic means that you’re going to have to sacrifice on effectiveness. This peel is the perfect just-one-thing addition to any skincare routine. Goodnight, dullness. Good morning, glow.

Brightening Facial Oil

In need of a daily radiance boost? Try this citrus-scented facial oil, which quickly absorbs and penetrates to awaken and replenish skin.

Color Intense Lipstick

No toxins required for this long-wearing, one-swipe lipstick. So many gorgeous colors to choose from, and the creamy formula moisturizes so lips feel soft and smooth.

Two // Use It, Replace It, Switch it Up

Okay, now that you’ve add a chance to add one (or two) cleaner products to your beauty routine, it’s time for step two: switch it up.

This step is easy: every time you run out of a conventional product, replace it with a safer option.

Again, this doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing.

If you have a favorite conventional product you’re not ready to part with, keep it.

As for the rest of your beauty routine, simply replace as you go, and you’ll have a clean, safer routine in no time.

Here are my top three suggestions for cleaner, non-toxic beauty products to switch to.

Mineral Sunscreen

Ditch the chemical sunscreen in favor of this non-nano zinc oxide and antioxidant-rich physical formulation, which provides an effective shield from UVA, UVB & Blue Light rays, while being gentle and pleasant feeling on the skin.

Dew Skin Moisturizing Coverage

This benefit-packed tinted moisturizer delivers lightweight hydration, a hint of sheer coverage, SPF 20 protection, and a luminous dewy glow.

Countermatch Adaptive Lotion

This lightweight lotion helps skin adapt to the ever-changing aggressors of modern life. Not only does it provide up to 24-hours of hydration — it actually adjusts hydration levels throughout the day for a smooth look and feel and radiant glow.

Three // Get to Know Your Own Skin

Transitioning to a clean, non-toxic beauty routine offers the perfect opportunity to get to know the skin you’re in!

As you age and your hormones change, so does your skin.

Trying out new products and switching up your skincare routine is an amazing chance to reconnect with your skin and figure out exactly what it needs in this phase of life.

Maybe it’s starving for moisture, or perhaps it needs a little help in the acne department.

Or maybe you’re ready to layer in an SPF during the day, or to add an anti-aging serum at night.

As you continue switching out products, pay attention to what’s working, and what’s not.

Reach out to brands, companies, or consultants to get personalized suggestions in order to maximize your clean beauty routine!

Here are my top three clean, non-toxic product suggestions for specific skin issues.
